Graduate Medical Education
The Baton Rouge General Department of Graduate Medical Education is committed to training competent physicians who are ready to provide high-quality, patient-centered, affordable healthcare. The General Health System and Baton Rouge General Medical Center’s Boards of Trustees, System Administration and Faculty are committed to excellence in both education and patient care.
Graduate medical education at Baton Rouge General began as a partnership between BRG and Earl K. Long Medical Center’s Internal Medicine residency program back in 1989. Since then, Baton Rouge General has trained more than 1200 residents in over 20 specialties. Currently, Baton Rouge General sponsors residency programs in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine as well as a Fellowship in Sports Medicine, and provides instructional locations for medical students from other schools, including Tulane and LSU.
