Meet Our Alumni
Julissa Braimoh, MD
Class of 2022
Julissa Braimoh, MD, is an alumna of the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine program. After completing residency, she pursued a fellowship in Perinatal and Child Health at PCC in Oak Park, IL, where she received specialized training in high-risk obstetric care, neonatology, and surgical obstetrics. Currently, she works at Opelousas General as a Women's Health provider, which truly feels like a dream come true.
In her role, she cares for prenatal patients and performs deliveries, both vaginal and cesarean. In addition to her obstetric work, she provides primary care services to the community. Her practice includes various procedures such as IUD and Nexplanon placement and removal, endometrial biopsies, colposcopies, pap smears, joint injections, and obstetric ultrasounds.
Pratik Patel, MD
Class of 2022
Since graduation, Dr. Patel has completed the primary care sports medicine fellowship with Baton Rouge General. Afterward, he moved to San Antonio, Texas where he is currently a sports medicine and primary care physician with UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Patel also holds a position as assistant professor/clinical with the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio Joe R and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. He is also a team physician for UTSA athletics.
Smita Prasad, MD, MPH, MBA, FASAM
Class of 2016
Dr. Prasad is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. She completed her residency training at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2016 & fellowship training at the Tulane Addiction Medicine Program in New Orleans. She was the second fellow to complete the program and is currently serving as faculty with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Addiction Medicine. She is the Medical Director of the Louisiana Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority Board. She serves as the President of the Louisiana Society of Addiction Medicine and as the Medical Director of the Substance Use Disorder Louisiana Programs at Longbranch.
Dr. Prasad provides outpatient addiction medicine services at the Tulane Addiction Medicine Clinic in New Orleans. She volunteers as a Board member with a non-profit, Unbranded, which raises funds & provides tattoo removal services for victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. She is also actively involved with the Louisiana State Medical Society and serves as the LASAM delegate in the LSMS House of Delegates as well as a LSMS AMA alternate delegate. Dr. Prasad was recently recognized as a New Orleans City Business 2024 Health Care Hero. She lives with her husband, three young daughters, and five dogs in Springfield, Louisiana.
Tanveer Mughal, MD
Class of 2014
Dr. Mughal completed his family medicine residency at Baton Rouge General Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in 2014 and has since made a significant impact on healthcare. For the past 10 years, Dr. Mughal has served as an emergency medicine physician at St. Luke Healthcare System in the Houston metropolitan area. His expertise and dedication to patient care have undoubtedly made a positive difference in countless lives.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Mughal is an assistant clinical professor at Sam Houston State University, Osteopathic School of Medicine in Huntsville, Texas. His commitment to teaching and mentoring future healthcare professionals is inspiring.
Dr. Mughal is also a visionary entrepreneur, serving as the CEO and Founder of MEFTii. This innovative company provides cutting-edge software solutions, including telemedicine, communication/collaboration, scheduling, credentialing, and ePrescription solutions, to healthcare providers across the United States.
Kevin Ricks, MD
Class of 2014
Kevin Ricks, MD a native of Independence, LA attended Louisiana State University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences in 2006. Dr. Ricks graduated from St. Matthews University School of Medicine in 2011. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Ricks finished his Family Medicine Residency in 2014 through Baton Rouge General.
Dr. Ricks and his wife, Stephanie Ricks, DMD, settled in McComb MS in 2017. At that time Dr. Kevin Ricks joined the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center team as a Family Medicine physician. Dr. Ricks acts as an adjunct clinical faculty member for William Carey University, in which he assists in training third- and fourth-year medical students. He is the Associate Program Director of the Southwest Health Family Medicine Residency Program. He is passionate about teaching students and residents to be thorough, compassionate providers. He serves as medical director of St. Luke Home Health & Hospice. Lastly, he is a dad to two sweet children.
