About Me
John J. Tabor, MD, earned his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he also completed his internship and residency in general surgery. He then completed a Fellowship in Advanced GI & Minimally Invasive Surgery with a focus on robotic surgery via the da Vinci Surgical System. He is Board Certified in general surgery. Dr. Tabor is the first surgeon in Louisiana, as well as one of very few in the country, to perform the robotic Whipple procedure for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. He has a special interest in surgery for the treatment of pancreatic, esophageal, stomach, colon, rectal and adrenal cancer as well as the treatment of benign conditions such as severe gastroesophageal reflux disease and ventral, incisional, and inguinal hernias. A leader in the field of robotic surgery, Dr. Tabor trains other surgeons across the state and country on robotic-assisted procedures. Intuitive Surgical, the creators of the da Vinci surgical system, host robust educational programs for surgeons, providing them with a progressive, surgeon-led series featuring clinical application and advanced techniques. Dr. Tabor travels throughout the country to train surgeons at Intuitive’s main training centers, including Memorial Hermann’s Surgical Innovation and Robotics Institute.
