BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) is celebrating one year since its mobile health unit, BRG Care on the Go, hit the streets of Baton Rouge. The unit brings primary and urgent care services to North Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas.
Since BRG Care on the Go first rolled out, it has:
• Cared for 300 patients
• Pulled up to 18 locations as stops
• Collaborated with 12 community partners and organizations
• Traveled over 4,200 miles in Baton Rouge communities
• Brought healthcare services to patients from 17 different zip codes, with 48% living in zip codes (70802, 70805, 70806) where people reported having limited access to healthcare within 3 miles of their homes.
• Provided care to patients ranging from age 1 to 88, with 68% of patients over the age of 55. Research shows that 90% of people 65 and older have at least one chronic health condition.
• Participated in 22 community events
• Connected 14 uninsured community members with options for health insurance
BRG’s mobile health services are led by Dr. Amber Robins and Dr. Jonathan Hickson, board-certified family medicine physicians. The mobile health unit team offers primary care and urgent care services, including diabetes care, wellness exams, on-site testing, and seasonal healthcare services like flu shots.
The unit’s current stops are the Charles R. Kelly Community Center, the MLK Center, Sharlo Terrace, and the ExxonMobil YMCA. See the full details here.
An additional feature and extension of BRG’s mobile health initiative is a new educational series in partnership with the ExxonMobil YMCA. The series is geared toward adults with chronic conditions including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome.
The mobile health unit is made possible by generous supporters to the Baton Rouge General Foundation. For more information, visit brgeneral.org/CareOnTheGo or follow along with @brgonthego on Instagram.
