BATON ROUGE, La. – Chefs from Baton Rouge General successfully defended their title for the third year as the Best of Mid City with another award-winning dish at the Taste of Mid City, a food festival supporting Kids' Orchestra. The team won with their dish, Cajun smoky charbroiled crawfish feast.
Taste of Mid City was held Sunday, March 30 and featured dishes from restaurants and chefs in the Mid City area plus live music and activities for the family. Hosted by Franklin Associates, the event is a way to bring the community together while supporting a good cause. Participating Mid City restaurants and chefs included Barracuda, Chicken Shack, Crafted Nibbles, Elsie’s Plate & Pie, French Truck Coffee, Hannah Q Smokehouse, Ingle Catering, Jed’s Local Poboys, Mestizo, Monjuni’s, Posh Pop, Reginelli’s, Spoke & Hub, Trap Haus, The Village Cafe, and 4 On the Geaux.
BRG’s culinary team has been recognized in the past for its dishes, including Best in Show at the popular Capital Chefs Showcase, which featured over 40 of the community’s finest restaurants, chefs and caterers. Last year’s winning dish at Taste of Mid City was a Cuban Mojo-injected whole pig, slow roasted in a Caja China (also known as a Cajun microwave). The pork was set atop a handmade sweet Hawaiian style blue corn tortilla, with a Chimi-verde drizzle, oxbow rum-infused grilled pineapple pico, homemade queso fresco, and topped with crispy chicharron dust.
Anyone from the public can dine at the hospital’s cafeterias – not just patients. Between the Bluebonnet and Mid City locations, the hospital serves more than 2.5 million meals per year. The nutritional care team also supports 12 offsite inpatient and outpatient facilities. For more information visit brgeneral.org.
