BATON ROUGE, La. -- Today, Baton Rouge General (BRG) announced plans to open a neighborhood hospital in Denham Springs, on Juban Road at I-12. Plans for the 40,000-square-foot facility include a 14-bed emergency room and 12-bed inpatient hospital, outpatient services like imaging and lab, as well as physician practices. Last year, more than 15,000 patients from Livingston Parish came to BRG hospitals for care.

“We know that Livingston Parish residents want more healthcare options, especially emergency and hospital services, that are closer to home,” said BRG President and CEO Edgardo Tenreiro. “We also know a neighborhood hospital that is faster and easier for people to navigate is better for patients and believe this concept will be a great fit for those in and around Livingston Parish.”

Plans for the hospital began two years ago, and the land was purchased last year. The project is now in the design phase. Once approved by the Livingston Parish Planning Commission, groundbreaking is tentatively planned for early 2025 and opening planned for 2027.

Livingston Parish leads both the state and the metro Baton Rouge area in population growth, with a 6% growth since 2020. The parish is one of just 8 parishes statewide to experience growth during this same period. BRG has a history in the parish, with two primary care locations, one in Denham Springs and one in Livingston.

BRG’s neighborhood hospital concept has been a success in Ascension Parish, experiencing growth each year since its November 2020 opening and adding services like ENT, urology and Saturday mammogram appointments.

Once construction is complete, the hospital will provide care 24 hours a day and will be fully equipped to offer comprehensive, convenient care for a variety of conditions, including chest pain and heart attacks, broken bones, stroke, abdominal pain, burns, seizures, dehydration, allergic reactions and much more.
