A nursing internship is an opportunity to put knowledge into practice, develop essential skills and start building a career. Choosing the right one can shape your clinical experience and help you gain confidence in patient care. Learn more about the Baton Rouge General summer senior nursing internship program and hear from past nurse interns to find out if our program is the right fit for you.
Our nurse internship program provides an enhanced learning experience that develops the skills critical to administering quality patient care in an acute care setting while facilitating a successful transition from the role of nursing student to a valued member of our nursing team. Once selected, our interns attend a comprehensive orientation and begin a six-week concentrated summer partnership with a personal preceptor in a selected clinical area.
Throughout the program each intern and preceptor function as a team to deliver quality patient care. Interns meet regularly with their preceptor and their nursing leadership sponsor for a progress evaluation. This evaluation provides proactive feedback that enhances learning opportunities and identifies any barriers. Upon successful completion of the summer assignment, our nurse interns have the flexibility to schedule shifts with their selected home unit while still maintaining personal and school commitments.
Hear from some of our past nurse interns who share their experience in the program:
"I chose the BRG Nurse Internship Program because it offered a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience in a supportive and dynamic healthcare setting. The opportunity to work alongside skilled professionals and receive mentorship from experienced nurses has been invaluable, enabling me to expand my clinical knowledge and enhance my skills. What I enjoyed most about the internship was the privilege of caring for patients throughout their perioperative journey at BRG Center for Health. The environment and the quality of care provided by the team are unmatched. I am truly grateful for being a part of the nurse internship program, and I am excited to carry these lessons forward as I begin the next chapter of my nursing career. " – Takeisha Walker, Nurse Intern 2024, OR
"I chose to apply for the BRG Nurse Internship because of the uniqueness of the program. I had been a nurse tech and gained experience in other facilities, but I really loved that BRG offered something different, with tech duties and skills plus the guidance of a preceptor. I have loved having a preceptor! It was an adjustment to work the same schedule as my preceptor during the summer, but overall, it made me feel more prepared for my last semester of nursing school and my first RN job. I was so lucky to be assigned an amazing preceptor who set a strong example of how to become a great nurse while also teaching me new skills. I would describe my time as a BRG nurse intern as fulfilling. I have met and worked alongside the best people and team and have grown in my skills and confidence. This internship has been such a valuable experience, and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to be a part of it!" – Anabelle Ours, Nurse Intern 2023, Oncology Unit
