Nursing is not just a profession; it's a community. A strong professional network provides support and opportunities for growth and development. Here are a few easy ways to help you connect with fellow nurses, mentors and potential employers.
Nursing Associations
Nursing associations offer a wealth of resources for networking and professional development. There are associations at the national level like the American Nurses Association (ANA) which currently represents 4 million nurses. They offer an online mentorship program as well as meetings and conferences you can attend. There are also associations at the state and local level. The Louisiana State Nurses Association (LSNA) is a great way to connect with nurses across the state, while in Baton Rouge the Baton Rouge District Nurses Association is an affiliate of ANA and LSNA that fosters making connections with nurses in the city you live in.
Social Media
Social media can be a powerful platform to connect with colleagues, stay informed about the latest healthcare trends, and engage with the broader healthcare community. LinkedIn is the go-to social site for professional networking. Create a professional profile, connect with colleagues and join nursing-related groups and discussions. Share your expertise through posts and articles to showcase your knowledge and attract potential employers or collaborators. There are also nursing specific sites like AllNurses, Nurse.org, and NurseGrid. These platforms provide forums, job listings and educational resources tailored to the nursing profession.
Connect with Local Employers
Attend job fairs hosted by local healthcare organizations to make personal connections with recruiters and hiring managers. Building relationships with local employers can lead to job opportunities and career growth. At Baton Rouge General we host many hiring events and opportunities to connect with our recruiters. See a full list of upcoming events here.
Attend Networking Events
Attend nursing conferences, job fairs, and workshops to meet fellow nurses. These events provide a unique platform for face-to-face interactions and can lead to job offers. Baton Rouge General hosts a quarterly Nurse Networking Night where new and seasoned nurses can connect, relax and talk with our recruiters. Our next networking night is Thursday, September 21. Don’t miss out on this fun event – register here.
By actively using these resources you can expand your professional network, stay informed about industry trends, and create opportunities for career advancement. If you would like to connect directly with one of our nurse recruiters call or text (985) 606-9061.
