BATON ROUGE, La. – The Vascular Specialty Center, a well-established practice providing comprehensive vascular care and vascular surgery, is now part of Baton Rouge General as Baton Rouge General Vascular Associates. The clinic remains located at BRG’s Bluebonnet campus. BRG Vascular Associates is led by regional leaders in vascular care and surgery with more than 50 years of experience -- Joseph Griffin, MD, FACS; Victor Q. Tran, MD, FACS; M. Vincent Weaver, MD, FACS, and Mickey Graphia, MD, who is a new addition to the team.

Founded in 1972, the practice has ranked as the largest single-specialty vascular and endovascular surgical practice in Louisiana and the only one solely focused on treating all aspects of diseases that affect the arteries and veins. Surgeons at BRG Vascular Associates have brought numerous “firsts” in vascular surgery to Baton Rouge, including the first in south Louisiana to perform a transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), the second in the country to perform an endovascular procedure with the WavelinQ device for patients with chronic kidney disease, and the first in the state to use fenestrated aortic endografts for complex aneurysm repair. It is also a designated center for National Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical trials.

Naomi Nelson will serve as director of vascular services at Baton Rouge General, responsible for the operations of BRG Vascular Associates. She holds a degree in biology from Southern University A&M and master’s in healthcare administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. She has more than 25 years of healthcare experience.

Board certified in both vascular and general surgery, Dr. Griffin received his medical degree from Ross University in the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies/North Brunswick, N.J. and completed a residency in general surgery at LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans. He then completed a fellowship in clinical vascular and endovascular surgery, also at LSU in New Orleans, where he now serves on faculty. Dr. Griffin focuses on complex arterial disease and venous management and treatment.

Dr. Tran received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed a residency in general surgery at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York. Following residency, Dr. Tran completed a fellowship in vascular surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, and he is board certified in both vascular and general surgery.

After receiving his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans, Dr. Weaver completed a residency in vascular surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Board certified in vascular surgery, he serves as a national TCAR faculty and proctor. Dr. Weaver specializes in advanced aortic aneurysms, visceral aneurysms, carotid disease, and complex peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Dr. Graphia, who recently joined BRG Vascular Associates, received his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans followed by a vascular surgery residency at Southern Illinois University. He will focus on all areas of vascular treatment.
