Baton Rouge General Announces Changes to Board of Trustees

BATON ROUGE, La. - Today, Baton Rouge General (BRG) announced four new members of its Board of Trustees: Jeffrey Littleton, MD, Bart Phillips, Joel Silverberg, MD, and Shawn Usher.

Dr. Jeffrey Littleton, who joins the board as an ex officio member, serves as Baton Rouge General’s new chief of staff. Specializing in general and burn surgery, he previously served as vice chief of staff. Dr. Littleton earned his medical degree from the University of California/Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles and completed his residency in general surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Burn Association.

As the new chair of the BRG Foundation Board of Governors, Bart Phillips will serve as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees. A native of Baton Rouge, Phillips is the CEO of BLP Holdings, a private investment firm managing renewable energy assets. He has more than 25 years of experience in executive leadership roles in the energy industry, as well as leadership roles in community organizations and boards. Philips is a U.S. Navy veteran and helicopter pilot who earned degrees from the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Postgraduate School.

Dr. Joel Silverberg is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism through the American Board of Internal Medicine, and has practiced at The Baton Rouge Clinic for 30 years. He earned a medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, then completed a residency in Internal Medicine through the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism through the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Shawn Usher formed Sparkhound in 1998 with the mission to make a meaningful impact for clients by solving their business problems with technology and leadership. Prior to starting Sparkhound, he led a team of senior business consultants who successfully transformed IT systems and management for the parent company of three hospitals, a health insurance company and 25 smaller healthcare-related companies. Usher earned a bachelor’s degree in quantitative business analysis and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Louisiana State University. He has served on the board of directors for Iberia Bank and Louisiana Arts & Science Museum, as well as the LSU E.J. Ourso College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and CEO Tech Committee for EBR Schools.
