Baton Rouge General Residents Accepted into Fellowship Positions

BATON ROUGE, La. – Seven graduates of Baton Rouge General’s Internal Medicine Residency Program (IMRP) were accepted into fellowship positions at hospital systems and academic institutions across the country.

Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship, Louisiana State University Health (LSUHSC), New Orleans, LA

Dr. Apoorva Malipeddi

Endocrinology Fellowship, The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX

Dr. Guru Parthiban

Rheumatology Fellowship, Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA

Dr. Jeremy Polman

Gastroenterology Fellowship, Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, NY

Dr. Chantal Saberian

Hematology and Oncology Fellowship, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD

Dr. Ifeoluwa Stowe

Nephrology Fellowship, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA

Internal medicine residency programs typically require three-year training following medical school. Upon completion of residency, physicians take exams to obtain board certification, then begin medical practice; or continue with additional fellowship training in sub-specialties such as hematology/oncology, cardiology, sports medicine, etc.

Graduate medical education at Baton Rouge General began as a partnership between BRG and Earl K. Long Medical Center’s Internal Medicine residency program back in 1989. Since then, BRG has trained more than 1,200 residents in over 20 specialties. Currently, the hospital system sponsors residency programs in internal medicine and family medicine as well as a fellowship in sports medicine, and provides instructional locations for medical students from other schools, including Tulane and LSU.
