Baton Rouge General Expands Services with Louisiana Sleep Foundation

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Sleep Foundation, a well-established sleep medicine, diagnostic and treatment center, is now part of the Baton Rouge General. The center specializes in diagnosing and treating complex medical sleep disorders with state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive treatment options.

Leading Baton Rouge General Louisiana Sleep Foundation as medical director is J. Kyle Schwab, MD, DABSM. Dr. Schwab completed medical school at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and a combined internal medicine and pediatric residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He became board certified in the specialty of sleep medicine in 2005 and is one of the few physicians in Louisiana who is a Diplomat of the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Schwab also focuses on Louisiana increasing sleep disorder awareness in both the medical community and the community at large in and around Louisiana.

W. Hunter Hardin, BSN, MSN, FNP, serves as clinical director of the treatment center. Hardin completed his undergraduate studies and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Louisiana State University and the University of South Carolina. He then completed a Master’s in Nursing at the University of Louisiana Lafayette and received his Advanced Practice Licensure to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Joining Schwab and Hardin is Lindsay B. Mullins, Ph.D., APRN, and Dedra Newton, FNP. Mullins completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She then received a Master’s in Nursing at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and received an Advanced Practice Licensure to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Mullins also completed a PhD in biological sciences from LSU.

Newton completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Master’s in Nursing at the University of Phoenix. She then earned her degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

If a patient has a suspected sleep disorder, the Baton Rouge General Louisiana Sleep Foundation offers a full line of clinical and testing regimens to evaluate them, including its Sleep Disorder Clinic, sleep studies, CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) titration studies, and testing for sleep-related movement disorders or narcolepsy.

Patients also have access to a variety of treatment options and comprehensive management of their sleep disorders. This may include CPAP follow-up, pressure adjustments, mask fitting, medication, dental referral for oral appliance therapy, surgical referrals and alternative therapies to treat underlying causes of sleep problems. Patients who qualify can also take advantage of clinical research opportunities through the center.
