BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) today announced that, after a national search, it has named William “Keith” Kellum, MD, its chief medical officer. Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Kellum will oversee medical services and clinical strategy at the Bluebonnet and Ascension campuses, partnering with BRG’s 1,000+ member medical staff to ensure that the system maintains the highest standards of excellence and patient care.
While working at BRG as a hospitalist since 2013, Dr. Kellum has taken on various leadership roles, including section chief of hospital medicine and chief medical information officer. He also serves as faculty for BRG’s Internal Medicine Residency Program and hospice medical director for Hospice Baton Rouge, located at BRG’s Mid City campus.
“As the senior medical member of our executive leadership team, we are excited about Dr. Kellum’s vision for clinical services at BRG,” said Edgardo Tenreiro, BRG’s President and CEO. “He is a respected physician and leader throughout both our system and the community, and we look forward to a new chapter with Dr. Kellum at the helm of physician leadership.”
He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences in Shreveport, where he served as student body president, and completed his internal medicine residency at LSU Health Sciences in New Orleans.
