Baton Rouge General Mid City - The Heart of Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge General has been taking care of our community since 1901 and in 1950, Baton Rouge General Hospital moved from its Government Street location to a brand-new facility on Florida Boulevard becoming a fixture in the heart of “Mid City.” When polio struck people of all ages reaching epidemic proportions in 1952, Mid City gave patients new hope.

Whether it’s taking care of the sickest patients, helping those recover from illness or injury, teaching them to speak or walk again in rehab, managing chronic disease, or helping some of the most vulnerable with mental and emotional well-being, some of our community’s biggest needs can be met at Mid City. We are committed to providing cancer care, outpatient surgery, OB/GYN services, primary care and many other services to patients in the Mid City community with professional care right here in the neighborhood most of the residents grew up in.

We’re proud of how the Mid City campus has transformed over the years, becoming a hub for education and one of the region’s leading teaching hospital with the Baton Rouge General and William Carey Schools of Nursing, BRG residency programs, graduation medical education (GME) program, and the BRG School of Radiologic Technology.

Baton Rouge General was a pioneer in the revitalization of Mid City decades ago and continues to lead the community today. We work closely with the Mid City Redevelopment Alliance to continue to improve the infrastructure and quality of place in the Mid City area. Today, our Mid City campus employs 900 people.
