Baton Rouge General, Open Health Team Up for Free Back-to-School Bash

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Baton Rouge General, in partnership with Open Health Care Clinic, is hosting a Back-to-School Community Bash on Saturday, August 13 from 9:00 a.m.-1 p.m. The free event is open to all and will be held on the campus of Park Medical Academy at 2680 Bogan Walk in Baton Rouge.

At the event, children can check up on their health with sports physicals, vision and hearing screenings. Adults will also have the opportunity to get blood glucose screenings, and COVID-19 vaccines will be available for both children and adults.

“The start of school is always a good reminder to check in on your children’s health, and what better way to do it than adding in family-friendly activities and gathering in a fun, relaxed atmosphere,” said Lauren Hebert-Henderson, community relations director at Baton Rouge General. “We want to meet our community where they are, and teaming up with other partners like Open Health helps us increase access for everyone.”

Other free activities and booths:

  • Cooking demo with the American Heart Association
  • Dental Demos
  • East Baton Rouge Parish Library
  • East Baton Rouge Fire Department Safe House
  • Red River Bank ice cream truck
  • Supply and uniform giveaway, while supplies last

“Open Health Care Clinic provides affordable, quality health care for every member of your family, with neighborhood health centers located in Mid City and across Baton Rouge,” said Kristy Mayes, chief development officer at Open Health. “We are happy to partner with Baton Rouge General to help provide true community care for all patients.”
