BATON ROUGE, La. -- Dr. Ryan Uitti, an international expert on Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders at Mayo Clinic and Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Care Network’s Southeast Region, has been named to the Board of Trustees at Baton Rouge General (BRG).
“As a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, we have gotten to know Dr. Uitti over the past year, and his perspective and experience are second to none,” said Phyllis McLaurin, who serves as the chair of the BRG Board of Trustees. “As we continue to use Mayo Clinic’s resources on behalf of our patients, we will also have Dr. Uitti’s valuable input as we move forward as a hospital system.”
In January 2020, BRG announced its membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Network. The network is a select group of independent health providers carefully vetted and granted special access to Mayo Clinic knowledge, resources, and team of experts. This collaboration provides BRG patients with access to Mayo Clinic expertise through their existing local physician at home, near their families. As one of the network’s medical directors, Dr. Uitti works closely with network’s members in the Southeast Region.
Dr. Uitti is also a professor and consultant in the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., where he has served since 1994. He was promoted to Full Professor of Neurology in 2003 in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and is a Fellow of the American Neurological Association and American Academy of Neurology. Additionally, he serves as the Deputy Director of the Mayo Clinic Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery.
Dr. Uitti has had an active research career and received funding from the National Institute of Health for his work for the last 16 consecutive years. He has been principal investigator in surgical and pharmacological trials and published peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and editorials. Dr. Uitti served on the initial and current editorial board for the International Association of Parkinsonism & Related Disorders (IAPRD). He has been a member of the executive committee and serves as Associate Editor for Neurology, a position he has held since 2006.
BRG and the Baton Rouge Clinic became the first health care organizations in Louisiana to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network, which Mayo Clinic launched in 2011. It has more than 40 member organizations across the U.S. and in Asia, Mexico and the Middle East. For more information, visit brgeneral.org/mayo.
