Even if you try to eat the perfect diet, it can still be difficult to get in your daily dose of recommended vitamins and minerals, which are important for energy and normal functioning of your body’s systems. While many nutrients come from a diet rich in vegetables and fruit, some men struggle to get in those servings. And not getting enough can negatively affect your long-term health.
Here are some important vitamins and supplements men should consider:
- Fiber – has a positive impact on health issues including heart disease, diverticulitis, obesity, colon cancer, diabetes and more. It also helps you stay regular.
- Vitamin D - is incredibly difficult to get from a food source but it aids your body in absorbing calcium, helps reduce inflammation, improve mood, and boost immune function. Having a Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to several serious health issues, including depression, dementia, and heart disease. There is even some evidence that vitamin D can help increase testosterone levels.
- Omega-3s - helps support cardiovascular health, joint health, and brain health.
- Palmetto Extract – often prescribed for reproductive and urinary tract issues and support prostate health. This vitamin is derived from a tree shrub with dark red berries.
- Magnesium - is important for blood glucose control, protein synthesis, nerve function, and more. Magnesium supplementation can support blood levels of testosterone and muscular health, especially when coupled with exercise.
Before beginning a new regimen, talk with your doctor about whether a multivitamin or individual supplements might be the best way to get what your body needs.
