BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General (BRG) announced today it has opened a Care Center to receive donations and supplies for those impacted by Hurricane Laura. The Care Center is a combined effort between the BRG Foundation and the Cajun Navy. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Sept. 2 and 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Sept. 3 and 4.
Donations and supplies can be dropped off at the Bluebonnet campus’s Picardy Plaza, 8490 Picardy Ave., Bldg. 100A (located next to the circle driveway). The Cajun Navy will pick up and deliver the supplies to Lake Charles at the end of the week.
“Our community has pitched in and answered our call for help as we continue to battle this pandemic,” said Erik Showalter, President of the BRG Foundation. “We are grateful for the helping hand and fortunate to be able to come together now for our neighbors in need.”
Right now, the greatest needs on the ground are:
- Water
- Diapers
- Trash bags
- Snacks
- Coolers/ice chests
- Feminine products
- Pet Food
- Rubbermaid containers/totes
- Tarps
This past weekend Dr. Russell Ledet, medical student and former BRG security guard, organized a supply drive for his hometown of Lake Charles, coordinating with the Cajun Navy on the areas of greatest need. His organization, The 15 White Coats, has raised over $120,000 so far for those affected by the storm. Follow Russell’s relief efforts here.
