BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge General will host an April 24 Lunch and Learn event on managing cholesterol, a health concern for the nearly 95 million adult Americans who have either borderline or high cholesterol.
While the body needs cholesterol to make hormones and digest food, too much cholesterol increases the risk for heart disease and stroke. Dr. Amit Patel, an interventional cardiologist with Cardiovascular Institute of the South, will share tools to not only manage high cholesterol but to help prevent it.
“Genetics do play a role, but there are typically no symptoms, so many people don’t know that their cholesterol is too high,” said Dr. Patel. “What’s important is that there are steps you can take to keep your cholesterol levels in a healthy range, whether you suspect your levels are high or not.”
The noon event will be held at BRG’s Bluebonnet campus, with lunch provided. The event is free, and registration is required. Details are also available through the Facebook event.
