Sometimes fitness classes can be overwhelming or intimidating. Baton Rouge General's fitness classes are taught by our caring and friendly staff and allow you to move at your own pace and beat. Whether you are looking for a new program, recovering from an illness or injury or are in your silver years, we have a class just right from you. You must be 18 years of age to participate.

Barre training is a 60-minute class that incorporates stretching, cardio training, strength training, and core stability in a program that gets your heart pumping, increases strength, and works all major muscle groups. It is taught at an intermediate level with modifications for beginners and advanced students.

  • Bluebonnet: Mondays at 4:15 p.m.
  • Mid City: Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
$6 per class. Discount provided if purchasing a multi-class pass.

Boot Camp

Fitness boot camp is a group exercise class that mixes traditional calisthenics and body weight exercises with interval training and strength training. Most boot camps are designed to resemble a military boot camp and push the participants harder than they'd push themselves. No boot camp experience is necessary to begin classes, but it is recommended that participants have a good level of cardiovascular and fitness level prior to participation and no current injuries.

  • Bluebonnet: Mondays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.

Circuit training is an effective way to keep your workout from growing stale while improving mobility, strength and stamina. These 60-minute sessions are broken down into the following phases: warm-up, training, cool down and stretching. The stations are designed to work the entire body, while offering a low-impact alternative to resistance training. 

  • Bluebonnet: Tuesdays at 12:00 p.m. &  Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m.

$3 per class. Discount provided if purchasing a multi-class pass.

Core Fit

During Core Fit, you will learn techniques for better flexibility, mobility and core strength … three components everyone needs to live life at their best. This class was designed with a step-by-step approach to train your mid-section to work the way it was intended to with stability, strength, stamina and endurance while adding flexibility and mobility to the joints that need it the most.

Mat Pilates

STOTT PILATES mat class focuses on developing core strength, flexibility, balance and stamina. These exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints by using your body weight as the primary source of resistance. This relaxed, but upbeat environment allows participants to improve the coordination of their Mind, Body and Spirit while achieving a full body workout.

  • Bluebonnet: Wednesdays at 5:00 p.m.

Tactical Hapkido

Tactical Hapkido is a style within the Hapkido family that focuses on strikes, low kicking, joint locks and trapping. Students will engage in striking pads, trapping drills/ joint locks and practice falls and rolls and will work with other students to practice the techniques. Some of the training involves ground combat. No previous training required.

  • Bluebonnet: Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m

Vinyasa Yoga, also known as flow yoga, is synchronized to breathing. The teacher will instruct you on how to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. Expect movement, not just stretching. Good for beginners and experienced Yoga participants.

  • Bluebonnet: Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m.

  • Mid City: Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m. & Thursdays at 5:00 p.m.

Zumba® is an invigorating, dance fitness class that allows anyone and everyone to have fun while dancing and exercising, and at the same time learn different styles of movement to amazing music. No dance or Zumba experience necessary.

  • Bluebonnet: Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.
$3 per class. Discount provided if purchasing a multi-class pass.

click here to download a copy. All necessary paperwork must be filled out prior to accepting payment. Cash or credit card payments must be made prior to participation. No personal checks will be accepted. Fees are non-refundable.

Baton Rouge General can provide you with the tools and support you need to be successful in quitting tobacco with our Smoking Cessation program. Cost for participants is $25 for one five-week program series.

The five-week Smoking Cessation program is a combination of American Cancer Society's FreshStart program and Baton Rouge General's FIT initiatives. Group sessions will address real life issues surrounding the lifestyle of a smoker including weight control, stress management, fighting the urge to smoke and staying smoke-free.

Based on the success of our own employee wellness program, Baton Rouge General now offers your company the opportunity to create wellness strategies for your workforce. Our hospital has capitalized on many healthy living initiatives like the BRG Fit! program, tobacco-free policy, stress management, biometric screenings, healthy dining options, fitness classes and ongoing health education.

Since the employee wellness pilot program was launched in 2011, BRG employees have achieved:
  • 33 percent reduction in body mass index (BMI) 
  • 16 percent reduction in waist size 
  • 10 percent reduction in overall health risks
