Baton Rouge General Provides Regional Burn Center Patient Update

Baton Rouge General is deeply saddened to announce that our patient listed in critical condition, Scott Thrower, has passed away.

"On behalf of Baton Rouge General and our Regional Burn Center team, we express heartfelt condolences to Mr. Thrower's family and friends for their loss, and to all those affected by this tragic event," said Dr. Floyd Roberts, Baton Rouge General's Chief Medical Officer.

Of the three patients who were also being treated in the Regional Burn Center, one patient has been released and the remaining two patients are in good condition. Baton Rouge General received a total of 19 patients following the June 13 explosion that occurred at the Williams Olefins chemical plant in Geismar, La.

Baton Rouge General's Regional Burn Center

Baton Rouge General's Regional Burn Center opened in July of 1970, providing a unique service dedicated to care and treatment of burn victims in the Gulf Coast region. It was the first designated burn facility in Louisiana, 14th in the nation, and is one of only 125 specialized burn centers in the U.S. The Burn Center provides more than 3,000 treatments each year for those suffering from flame, scald, electrical, chemical and other burn-related injuries and continues to achieve the highest standards for providing exceptional inpatient and outpatient care, rehabilitation and support services.
